The other well-researched, but not well-known application of electrolysis is for skin blemish removal. This therapy is referred to as Advanced Cosmetic Procedures. Thermolysis and Blend electrolysis have been used for decades to treat unsightly skin blemishes quickly and safely. Until recently, many of these imperfections would have been treated by GP’s with liquid nitrogen, which was quite a messy procedure. Some practices would have invested in a hyfrecator, which is very similar to electrolysis machines device for electrosurgery. These surgeries may still be offering skin blemish removal, but it is no longer covered by the NHS as it is classed as a cosmetic procedure.
Advanced Cosmetic Procedures are much more effective, comfortable, quicker, cheaper and leave less, if any at all, scarring, compared to other methods for skin blemish removal like cryopen, surgery, hyfrecator. The list of imperfections that can be treated with ACP is ever growing, but here are the most commonly requested ones:
- Skin tags
- Seborrheic keratosys
- DPN’s (Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra)
- Blood spots
- Broken capillaries (Telangiectasia)
- Spider neavi
- Sebaceous hyperplasia
- Closed comedones.
